Basic SEO For Wedding Photographers

Search engine optimization for wedding photographers is really quite easy to understand and implement in your business and will have a huge impact in letting more clients find your photography business. I’m Jamie from jamiedelainewatson.com and let’s get into basic search engine optimization for wedding photographers right now. The first step to getting started with search engine optimization on your blog is installing the Yoast SEO Plug-in. I’m using a WordPress blog, which I highly recommend for the functionality and availability of all their plug-ins. If you don’t see this on the recommended page when you go to your WordPress settings and their plug-ins we’re just going to search from keyword here, Yoast SEO, and you’re going to hit install now. I already have it so that’s why mine says active so you’re going to hit install now. Once that’s done when you go to one of your blog posts you’ll see it underneath your main blog post content.

At the end of your blog post content you’ll see the Yoast SEO plug-in right here. This is a really handy plug-in that allows you to set the focus keyword right here and also helps you to edit the snippet that’ll be shown on Google when somebody searches so this is how it will appear in Google, you can edit that there. Then they’ll also tell you an analysis of how your SEO’s doing so any problems they’ve found, improvements you can make, and good results. Then the plug-in will give you either a red light, a yellow light, or a green light for good, okay, or bad. You can this specific blog post, because I haven’t worked on it yet, says “SEO Okay”. The second step to achieving a good SEO rating for your blog is to create titles that your ideal client is searching for. For this wedding that took place at this specific venue you can see that I’ve named it with the venue’s name followed by wedding. This is a huge improvement versus naming the blog post Sarah and Brandon Wedding because nobody is Googling for Sarah and Brandon’s wedding.

Instead I want to attract brides who are searching in Google the name of the venue followed by wedding assumably because they’re getting married there and want to see examples. Let’s try this out, I’ve opened up a new Chrome window in incognito mode. What this means is that it’s not taking into account any of my past history or personal preferences and it’s not personalizing my Google results at all, it’s all exactly as another client or another person would see. I’ve searched Robert H Lee Alumni Wedding, because that’s the title of the post, and you can see here fourth, fifth, sixth, my post comes up number seven based on that search result.

This is an amazing way for me to market to brides who are getting married at this venue and actually number eight is also me from a wedding two years ago. After you have your search friendly title you’re going to want to make sure that you have the same title right here in the permalink because this also will help Google know that this is relevant information so not only is the title there it’s also here. Another great title I could add photos to the end of this, because that may be an exact search term that somebody would be using, either one.

You definitely don’t want just the venue name, you want to add wedding if not wedding photos. SEO tip number three is to name all of your images in the specific blog post with the search term as well. All of these images that I’ve put into this blog post that you can see here they’re not called SarahandBrandon.Jpg instead they’re listed as RobertHLeeAlumniCentreWeddingPhotos01.jpg. You can see here if you look into the HTML you can see all of these different images tags here, this is how I’ve named them.

It’s quite easy to rename using a program like Photo Mechanic or Lightroom and you can rename these really quickly and I have them all named under the venue name or the search term. The reason we name our images with the specific venues name is it provides another opportunity for Google to show off our photos to a client who may be searching for the specific venue. Instead of typing into the regular Google search results I tested this out by clicking images and under images I’m going to search through, these are all images that Google has deemed relevant to this search term. Now I don’t see … well this is actually my image right here, you can see Jamie Delaine Blog written there so the third image is one of mine and as we go down I’ll see a few more of mine here, this is also one of mine, it’s even pulled in other weddings that aren’t at this venue because it’s been from my blog that had this wedding on it. Here we start to see Sarah and Brandon’s, the blog post I was showing you, so these are popping up here, this is also one of there’s.

Now this is only going to increase in weeks to come, this is a pretty new blog post. Maybe a bride would be searching for wedding photos on Google images, she’d click this, and then she’d want to go see where this post is, and the next thing we know she arrives on my blog post here and hopefully contacts me to book her wedding. SEO tip number four is to include the name of the keyword you’re focusing on throughout the blog post. It’s not enough to just have it in the title and in the permalink and in the images, we can go one step further and include links throughout. You can see that I’ve done that here by saying, “I’d love the chance to photograph weddings at Robert H Lee Alumni Centre,” while linking to the venue site, I’ve also listed it here under Ceremony and Reception Venue there. You always want to make sure that this flows naturally, you definitely don’t want to just copy and paste that link a million times, that kind of used to be the old SEO rules 10 years ago.

What you’re going to want to do is try to fit this in naturally with what you’re saying. I could have probably done even a better job at this, a good example would be I could go down to where there’s a reception image, like here for example this is the ceremony, and I could say something like I love photographing in this beautiful space at the Robert H Lee Alumni Centre and then I could link to that as well and that would be another way of introducing my keyword into the blog post. SEO tip number five is you want to include quality links throughout your post. A really easy way to do this when we are wedding photographers is to link to all of the vendors involved in the day.

I’ve gone through here and I have every single vendor and a link to their website, this is showing Google that my website is quality and it’s also focused on directing traffic to other quality websites and so I’ve linked all of these here. These are called outbound links, you’ll also want some inbound links which means bouncing people around to other blog posts you have that they may find relevant. Something I maybe should have done with this post is I could say, “P.S if you want to see another wedding photographed at the UBC Alumni Centre,” it’s another name for it, “You can visit Jamie and Jason’s wedding blog post right here,” and then I would link this to another wedding that I did at the Alumni Centre and that provides another quality link to Google to show that my website is worth indexing and bumping up in the search results.

The sixth and final SEO tip is going to be using alt tags in your images. Essentially alt tags are something that describe the image to Google because Google doesn’t know what they’re actually looking at, it’s relying on all of this data we put in our blog post and in our images to provide quality search results for people who are searching. In WordPress if you click the edit button here on the image you’ll see the alt text under alternate text written here.

I’m going to write Robert H Lee Alumni Centre Wedding Photos, this is telling Google that this is what this image is about. Let me click update, what this means is that when I go to this image here and say you have a pin it Pinterest button I can click save and my alt text will automatically be imported here so anytime this image is shared you’ll have that text embedded in the image through the alt text. Of course adding alt text to 80 images one by one by using this edit tool would take a long, long time so instead what I do is I use the HTML version of this post. If you’re new to HTML we’re going to click over here to text and then I’m going to copy all of this text by going command C, but I’m going to open up my text editor. Once I have my text editor open I’m going to go format, make plain text, so there’s no formatting, and then we’re going to paste this. This looks like a confusing amount of code but what we’re going to look for here is alt equals two quotes.

We’re going to use the find and replace and we’re going to have alt two quotes go here, so this is what we’re finding, and then what we want to replace it with. What we want to replace it with is your keyword search term. Anytime you see this in the document it’s going to replace it with that so we’re going to replace all and then we’re going to copy this text again and drop it back into the text editor and cover everything there. Then you’re going to want to make sure that nothing else changed in your post which it didn’t and then you’re going to hit update and that’s a really quick way to update all of your alt text.

Five noob PHOTOGRAPHY MISTAKES & How to fix Them

What’s up everyone welcome back to Tokyo Japan my name is Joe Allam and in this video, I’m gonna share five mistakes I commonly see beginner photographers make and my solutions on how to solve them I Should probably point out I am so stoked to be back in Tokyo by the way, I just I love this place so much Alright, so issue number one I see all of the time and that is wonky horizons, now it may not be obvious at first But when you review back your images afters and once you spot it You can’t help but not spot anymore. So many people are taking pictures, and they’re not aware of how wonky They may be taking those so first and foremost, make sure you have your horizon Dead straight across the center of your image if you have that Otherwise you can always fix it in your editing software so in Photoshop or in Lightroom. Wonkiness is really It’s really easy to spot once you go looking for it.

If you find yourself a notoriously bad with wonky horizons then maybe some extra tips you can take to improve that is to take your time with things use two hands on the camera and Steady yourself with a steady posture In fact, most cameras will actually have a gyroscope built in and you should be able to enable it On both the viewfinder and on the screen, so you can keep those steady Particularly if you’re shooting with a tripod you’ve really got no excuse So my second mistake that I see quite commonly is a complete misunderstanding of white balance now white balance is the metering that you set in your camera to set the color temperature of your images Now the color temperature comes from your main light source now that could either be the sunlight or it could be a tungsten light or it could be a fluorescent bulb something like that so you need to set the white balance on your camera – the main source of light that way you’ll get truly accurate whites and colors across the board with your images otherwise you may end up with very warm and Orangey images or very blue and sometimes greeny images If you shoot in RAW as well, you can also change this in your post-production But generally it’s good to get a good in camera these days cameras are actually really good at setting auto white balance as well So that may even be your solution to solve things To change your white balance you can either go into the settings or look on The back of your camera on the top you may have a button that it’s just labeled as WB And you’ll go through there pretty much every camera will have an icon related to the light source so that you match them, too So if you really have no idea then just match it to the icon And if you really want to be accurate in your white balance then you can purchase a gray card And then you can match up to your images With the grey card in front and then that way everything is going to be accurate Okay, so if there’s anything that could be the most important thing that you really don’t wanna make a mistake on its this Having blurry or non-sharp images.

I can’t stress enough. How important it is to get your images pin sharp You know you can make a mistake on everything else, but honestly just get your images sharp to me Nothing stands out as amateur more than if your image isn’t sharp in the first place now some ways to improve that you can either shoot with a faster shutter speed you can maintain a steadier posture you could use a tripod or You could use a higher ISO if you’re in low-light situations so many people come to me with images and they say hey, can I get you feedback on this and beyond anything The one thing that really really stands out is when your images just aren’t sharp another thing to take note of with that is the way that aperture plays into the depth of field and sharpness of images the larger your aperture the less you actually have in focus so you may actually find Some people take photos of people and the nose is perfectly in focus and the eyes are soft they’re not in focus just use a slightly smaller aperture or set your focus correctly on the eye and That will really stand out differently, but when I say shakiness and bonus I’m usually talking about when people have taken an image, and they’re clearly not Stood very steady whilst they’re taking it.

They just study your posture, and you’ll get great results My next tip is related to composition now We all know that finding a great composition is really hard and quite troublesome sometimes however this particular aspect I’d say comes down to spatial awareness And I see it a lot and people maybe aren’t aware of the scene that they’re in and taking the photos And they don’t realize it just a small adjustment can actually make a huge improvement on the image so a few things that are quite commonly seen taking pictures of people and things are uncomfortably cropped off so maybe someone’s head is propped up a little bit uncomfortably or the bottom of their feet cropped off if it’s a Full-body shot or maybe you’re taking a picture of a building and you crop the top of it, and it just looks a bit odd Or perhaps, it’s something. That’s maybe symmetrical, and you haven’t taken it quite in the middle It’s just ever so slightly off-center if you can just keep that spatial awareness Apparent in your images it makes a huge difference Okay, so my final tip on how to overcome the five mistakes that beginner photographers make and that is Setting your exposure correctly.

Now this is incredibly common that people maybe Unaware of how to properly set the exposure on their camera and that is completely fine, however It is not big, and it is not clever to shoot in manual all of the time I mean, I feel like a few years ago I fell into that trap where I was always shooting manual and now quite often actually shooting aperture priority Or I’ll shoot something else Just let something within the camera Do something automatic for you to maintain a correct exposure Because what you don’t want to happen is go somewhere and miss a shot because it is poorly exposed or something happens and you’ve missed It because you’re on old settings for when it was exposed to something else the other thing to bear in mind Is that on your camera itself in the viewfinder when you are shooting you will see a little light meter? If you can get that meter as close to the center as possible by adjusting your settings And that means you’re gonna have a perfectly exposed image the meters within cameras are really really good these days another thing that a lot of people kind of make the mistake of Through reading old literature is they are afraid of high ISO s and I’m talking like anything above 600 which to me is not high at all If you have a camera that was bought within the last four or five years or something you could be pretty confident to shoot You know3200 ISO.

Maybe even higher if you’ve got a high-end camera you could shoot anything up to maybe twenty thousand with your ISO and Still be able to get shots now there will be some noise involved. That’s true across anything but What would you rather have? An image that’s kind of noisy? Or, no image at all because it’s poorly exposed? For me, I’d rather have an image That’s correctly exposed if it comes with noise it comes with noise That’s just down to the location and any other light you maybe can’t control so yeah, be aware of your highlights. Be aware of your shadows and your overall surroundings. How to photograph INCREDIBLE ARCHITECTURE

What’s up everybody pit it’s Tuesday Wow the week’s really just fly by don’t they but we all know what that means welcome back to yet another two minute Tuesday so good to have you here in today’s topic we will be discussing architecture photography a couple of thoughts that I have when it comes to this beam and I live in a massive city that has tons a whole hell of a lot of badass architecture that I’ve shot throughout the years in many different situations and scenarios so we’re gonna take you through a little bit of that today and just show you what I think when it comes to taking pictures of

buildings and things of that nature so with that being said let’s throw two minutes on the clock let’s go first things first we want to check out the Vantage and the surroundings and do a little survey walk around the block check it out from across the street how does it look low how does it look higher up something that might look mundane on the street when you get up close looks absolutely phenomenal like this shot right here it looks like a UFO is coming down and just zip me away crazy getting that kind of wherewithal so that we know what we want a photograph is the first step to taking a great photo sometimes the best Vantage isn’t the most obvious Vantage that might just be head-on beauty of architecture is exactly that it’s beautiful these

people are artists that are designing these buildings it has a unique touch from the very person that designed it so we want to find that and show it off using your creative skills and talents something I like to say is don’t forget to look up beat the vets outside or just walk in the building and look up as well sometimes these designers don’t just make a crazy awesome looking building on the outside they make it awesome on the inside too like this building for instance I was going down an escalator I looked up and for NASA

headquarters yes please framing buildings using other buildings just like we talked about in the composition video using other buildings to frame the building that is the subject can be a super cool meta if you will way of approaching photography when it comes to buildings here’s an example right here of two office buildings sandwiching the CN Tower with a little sliver in between then it just fits rods just perfect lastly is capturing the close-up details of these buildings some of them can only be seen when you are super close maybe it’s the texture of some tiles that lie in one side maybe it’s the

whole buildings texture in and of itself that you can’t see from far away but when you’re close up you can which leads me to my next point which is the gear you’re going to use wide angles are obvious the wider the better that’s always good you want to have that if you’re doing architecture photography but maybe a macro lens is something you want to bring along too for those very details the stuff that nobody sees far away so have good mixed bag of

lenses I wouldn’t say just limit yourself to wide-angle play around lastly is perspective taking advantage of the lens Corrections and transform features of Lightroom can dramatically change for the better sometimes for the worse your photographs just hitting vertical on a photo like this will completely make that perspective straight on which looks great you get two blank spots in the corners but if we’re cropping this for Instagram we’re done thank you very much yes please so that’s it for me today guys I hope you enjoyed this video and the last thing I’ll leave you with is the best part of architecture

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITH PHOTOGRAPHY

We’re getting a little carried away with these this this is like completely modded with like a hardcore spring in here and it’s just it’s it’s getting out of hand yeah I don’t need this I’ve got enough energy what’s up everybody Peter MacKinnon here and welcome back to another tutorial this is part three in mistakes that you want to avoid as a photographer or filmmaker the first part we’re talking about shooting actual applications with the camera the second part we talked about editing mistakes that you make when editing when you’re a beginner and the third section today’s video we are covering the

business aspect of mistakes to avoid as a young entrepreneur photographer or filmmaker setting out into the world to try and make this a career or try and make some money from this maybe it’s just some extra cash on the weekend or a full-blown like paycheck these are a couple things I’ve compiled that I wish I had when I started or wish that I did better and we’re gonna start with those number one contracts contracts are so important they are no fun at all to make they’re no fun to read and they’re no fun to sign but they are there to protect you no matter who you are shooting for listen to me no matter who you’re shooting for it’s a friend if it’s family it doesn’t matter you get a contract lay out everything that you hope to do for that person both of you sign it date it whatever if there’s compensation both of those things are agreed you’ve

both signed it’s done that way if anything comes up if extra work is piled on if you didn’t do enough work both parties have a signed document clearly outlining what the expectations are because I find that’s the biggest loophole that’s the biggest mistake is expectations are always different from one person to the other and of those expectations are set clear at the very beginning and they’re followed through to the end because you have a contract business is better so if you don’t have a contract download a sample template check it out read it maybe fill in your own stuff instead of the sample do whatever you got to do take it to a lawyer get a friend to look at it get your parents to look at it your older siblings to look at it whatever start with

something okay signed agreements that is point number one number two is not charging enough now I’m an advocate for working for free at the beginning to get your foot in the door a lot of people are like no you should never undersell yourself your time is worth yes your time is valuable and your time is worth money but hustling and doing work pro bono it’s going to get you into more doors it’s gonna open up more doors for it’s gonna get you into more places meet new people it helped build my career it helped build careers like my friend D Rock who just put a great post online about how he worked for free right up to hustling to be Gary V’s personal videographer that is awesome

but not charging enough is something I could have done better as a growing entrepreneur and a photographer trying to make it in the field I was always just so excited to get a gig that I completely forgot what I should be charging what my time is worth not only are you supplying the equipment for this job you’re taking your gear that you bought to a photo shoot you’re driving your vehicle using your gas taking the time out of your day then you’re coming back and you’re editing all those photos that’s also skill with software that you’re paying for so the list goes on and on and on and on those things are valuable so once you start charging for your work make sure you’re charging enough I mean

you think about it like some of these cameras are thousands and thousands of dollars if you’re gonna go do some portrait shots and you’re only going to charge a hundred bucks or two hundred bucks for a quick portrait session one what does that say about you as a photographer and the quality of work that you put out and – how is that ever actually gonna make you money or pay back your gear or actually get you ahead in this game so make sure you’re charging enough sometimes you can throw numbers out there that might even see a little crazy to you and that client comes back and goes yeah all right no problem and you think yourself oh it can be very exciting but it’s something that you got to take seriously so really sit down and factor in all of those things

I listed to know what your time is worth and charge accordingly point number three coming up boy number three is checklists I can’t stress this enough so if you’re going on a shoot let’s just say you’re shooting a wedding you’ve got the contract in place you’ve charged what you wanted to now comes to the actual shoot day I always recommend getting a checklist from the client of everything they want done that way you can reference that throughout the day throughout the shoot and you know you’ve got everything if that client fails to provide you something on that checklist it is not your fault example

let’s just say you’re shooting a wedding you’ve got that checklist and get the dress get the drinks in the morning get the gifts the first look blah blah you’re knocking off all those things but then maybe two weeks later that client comes back and says aunt Margaret never had her portrait taken with us and were very upset about this and she flew all the way here from Australia and we’re not going to see her ever again and you didn’t even take photos and then you can pull out that checklist that you had that client make for you and sign off on you can say look you didn’t tell me to take any pictures of this aunt from Australia nowhere on this list so how was I supposed to know that so it’s there to protect you as well at the same time it’s there to help you make sure

that you get everything that client wants that’s a good thing checklists moving on to point number four number four is my favorite it’s meeting in person so much of today’s correspondence is done via email text message even or over the phone but there’s nothing quite like sitting across from a prospective client and being able to sell yourself you’re as much of the product as the actual images and video that you’re shooting so sell yourself show them why they want to hire you show them that charming personality show them that excitement and enthusiasm for what it is that you do that’s gonna get you

more bookings been hiding behind an email meeting in person can go so far for building your brand and your rapport I don’t know why people don’t do it enough take a coffee shop set up camp meet some clients there show them your work build a rapport pay for their coffee just have a good time kind of get that friendship rolling so they feel comfortable trusting you with their big day or with their huge project or giving you money if you’re younger than them that is a huge advantage instead of just sending off a text message or just leaving a voicemail meet them in person tip number five closing out this video and closing out this three-part series and don’t worry for everyone who was

complaining about this microphone I don’t like that I can see the mic it’s okay I changed things up all the time that’s the kind of guy I am this backgrounds here then it’s there and then it says tip number five is putting yourself out there I remember when I started photography and I wanted to make this a business and I wanted to make a living I sort of expected the work to come to me I was like okay I’ll build a website I’ll get some business cards I’ll send a few texts I’ll put my stuff on Facebook I’ll start writing a blog and they’ll come people will just knock on my door they’ll just call my phone I’m like hey is this Peter MacKinnon the photographer who just built that brand new website and has fresh business cards I’d love to hire you doesn’t happen that way it won’t happen that way maybe once in a blue moon but for the most part that’s

probably good it’s a family related you’re never gonna get just random cold calls knocking on your door offering you money you got to go get that work yourself you got to put yourself out there always have your gear with you always let’s just say it’s a simple family barbecue and you got your camera with you you’re snapping photos of the family of the events of people smiling and laughing and then you send them out to the family maybe a family friend was there or the cousin says hey these are actually great photos and when their friends says they need a photographer my cousin did some great work like here’s some photos you took at our family oh yeah we’d love him to shoot our family barbeque boom job done secured or maybe you’re at a restaurant

you’re taking some pictures of food and the owner comes up to you and says hey I might need some photos like what’s it was it what does your work look like or better yet finding that manager and saying hey I’m a photographer and I’d love to do food photography and I would be interested in possibly working for you maybe reshooting your menu or do some social work for you for your Instagram account putting yourself out there to kind of generate those leads generate that work it doesn’t hurt anybody the worst case scenario the worst

thing that’s gonna happen someone’s gonna say no I don’t need it I don’t want it you can either try to convince them or you can move on to the next person but sitting at home just because you’ve got a nice Instagram profile or a nice website doesn’t mean anyone’s gonna come knocking to hire you you got to go knocking to get those jobs when those jobs start coming that word of

How I grew my photography business

Hey guys, welcome back to my channel! in today’s video, I’m gonna be sharing with you the game changers in my business. this was actually a suggestion from one of my subscribers and they asked what were some game changers like gear I purchased maybe experiences I had software’s and mindsets things like that that I think are the biggest game changers in my own business now reflecting back on the past 5 years and I really love this question I think it’s a good one so I’m going to answer it in today’s video. before we dive in, if you are new here, hit that subscribe button I make videos just like this one every single week for photographers just like you ok so starting off with experiences I have 3 different experiences that I think really shaped Who I am as a photographer

now and took me the farthest of anything that I tried in my business early on and the first is second shooting I second shot for a couple of different wedding photographers pretty consistently meaning I second shot you know 10 or 15 weddings with that same photographer in my first year so while I was booking my own weddings I was also working for other photographers and this was hugely valuable not only to grow as a photographer just get the camera in my hands working manual that kind of thing but really good to see how other photographers run a wedding day and get to see how the timeline works on a wedding day so if you can get second shooting experience I think that would be hugely valuable especially if you’re moving into the world of

weddings the second experience that really helped me out was shooting couples for free I even shot individuals families friends and engaged couples and it just got me really comfortable with posing other people in front of the camera and it got my feet wet into the industry a little bit before I had pain clients so if you don’t have any portfolio you’ve never photographed a couple before don’t just jump in and start charging people do it for free so you can gain the experience without the pressure of having that paying client and all those expectations the third experience that really grew me was attending a business focused workshop for photographers so I attended a workshop

called the business essentials and doing this really early on in my career and starting to think about profit and my cost of doing business and sales and marketing and just the different side of photography early on instead of being only thinking about my gear and my flash and my settings really set me up for success when it came time to grow my business because at the end of the day my goal as a photographer wasn’t just to produce beautiful work but to bring home a paycheck and support my life and my family’s life with my

photography and so being in that mindset from the very beginning really helped me and took me really far so I’m gonna link some of my favorite resources below for you guys if you’re interested in the business side of photography or you’d like to just grow in general and business knowledge marketing knowledge branding knowledge and that kind of thing so be sure to check that out so in terms of gear I have two pieces of equipment that I think just made a really big impact in the final results of my images now I personally wanted to shoot weddings and I wanted to shoot a lot of portraiture and be

able to photograph couples in low light and not have too much noise so I was struggling for a long time to be able to accomplish what I was envisioning in my head until I received well until I bought a full-frame camera body so until I had a camera body that could handle a little bit of a higher ISO I struggled to get that look and then the second pieces of equipment that really helped pair with the full-frame camera body is the 85 millimeter lens so for me personally in my own business it was absolutely crucial that I have a full-frame camera and an 85 millimeter lens combined to really get that look that I was going for and that kind of became my signature look which really built my brand in my business and took it forward now when it comes to editing early on I was really overwhelmed by Lightroom I knew I needed to use Lightroom and not

Photoshop because I’d be dealing with so many images but I didn’t know how to use Lightroom and one class that really helped me organize the catalogs understand presets and just all the editing modules was a class by Jarrod Platt over on creativeLIVE I’ll link down below but I think it was like less than $100 and it is so in depth and really breaks down every single area of Lightroom so that you can understand your import settings your export settings and how to achieve the edits that you’re really looking for in your photography so that leads me to software’s I have three softwares that I want to mention for you

guys today the first is photo mechanic before I got photo mechanic I was using Lightroom to actually go through and pick the images that I wanted to edit and it just took ages and ages and ages and Lightroom’s actually not meant for calling and it just slows everything down if you have a huge amount of images in your catalogue that you don’t need to be there so I use photo mechanic and I have a video all about that so I won’t get into it but you can check that out here and I’ll link it down below the second software that I use is honey book and honey book is how I manage all the nitty-gritty of like contracts invoicing getting paid getting things signed questionnaires a lot of the back and forth of

my clients is just a client management software really and I waited a little too long to get a client management software because I thought I needed to wait until I was really busy and really profitable and while that kind of makes sense at first blush it becomes really overwhelming to transfer everything over so I had a really inefficient system of getting my contract signed and invoicing my clients and remembering when to invoice them after you know a certain amount of time had passed and they needed to make their next payment or whatever is in your client process and so transferring over was kind of a pain so I really encourage you if you want to have a wedding photography business

sort of photography business in general get a client management software sooner than you think you need it because it will actually allow you to be able to grow to the levels that you need to because your business will be set up in a really healthy and sustainable way instead of having all these weird backwards ways of getting paid and getting contracts signed and sending invoices and I mean even sending a proposal like if you’re filling out all that information customizing that sending it to your client every single time like I know people that are wasting time on proposals when it should be like three clicks and it

can be really quick your time is really valuable so get a client management software the third software I want to mention is my like you it is an app that I use on my phone that tracks all my mileage and all I have to do is swipe left or right and tell it whether it was a business expense or business mileage or personal and at the end of the year it I to mises everything out and it gives me a form that I can send with my taxes so that I can get the most amount of write-offs possible for my business so once I discovered this app I knew this is what I want to pay for it every single year and it just makes my life so much easier I don’t have to keep a log or keep receipts or any of that like it’s all digital and I love that it you know preps all my tax forms at the end of the year

so it’s really really great I have three books that completely change the game for me I guess mindset wise but also just gave me a lot of incredible business knowledge when I was first starting my business the first is the pumpkin plan the second is the book start and the third I have to look at my list it’s fine art weddings I’m gonna link all of these below I’m not going to get into every single one of them but these are the three books that when I really sat down and I really thought about it I can attribute the most amount of business growth and change and they just were the biggest game changers for me starting out in my photography business the final thing that I want to share with you guys is a couple of mindset shifts I guess you could say and that I had

early on in my business and those were looking at other photographers looking at people that I admired and looked up to and wanted to be like and realizing that they were just people they put on their pants one leg at a time they’re human beings and that they started at zero as well so when I start when I first started out I kind of you know had all these amazing people up on pedestals and I it was really hard for me to imagine that I could ever be there or ever booked clients like they do or produce work like they do but I really started shifting that mindset and asking you know why not me why couldn’t I do this why can’t I book that client and why can’t I make that money why can’t I produce that work and I think that mindset was really hugely crucial for my success and just saying like why not me so that was really huge I know that’s

like kind of you know woowoo or like a little bit vague but I think your mindset going into business and your belief in yourself is hugely impactful on how it’s all gonna go down and whether or not you’re gonna push through and have the grit to continue when you come up against resistance and struggles and problems which you inevitably will the last thing that I think had like a profound impact on my business was the compound effect and the compound effect is simply that there’s nothing that you can do once or twice or three times that’s gonna change everything for your business but rather it’s something that you do every single day for a long amount of time that suddenly adds up to something so it starts to compound in effect and all that blogging you’re doing and networking and posing going on workshops reading books listening to podcasts all these things you know one of them or two of them may not feel impactful but in the long run they add up to huge results and that’s the compound effect and that’s something that took a little while to grow and have momentum in my business but I just kept at it and I knew that the

How to GROW Your Fanbase in 2019

story so I want to teach you a few ways or talk to you about a few ways that you can grow your fan base in 2019 because let’s face it if you can’t build a fan base you don’t have a shot at a successful career I’ve said this over and over on this channel but an engaged fan base is the key that unlocks every door in the music industry if you want a record label deal if you want people beating down your door and all of that all of that comes with engaged fans so let’s talk about a few ways to achieve that where you know you may have failed last year here are some things you can do to make sure you’re engaging and attracting fans day in and day out in 2019 so the first thing that you can do and what’s often the most effective is playing live shows live

shows are usually the most effective because that is where a fan can see all of who you are as a person if you’re funny if you are engaging if you have an interesting story if you are a great performer and if you have music that really connects and resonates with people that usually comes out on the stage in ways that it doesn’t always come out on social media in the songs themselves in interviews there’s just something about the intimacy of a live show where you can really show off who you are as a person and connect one to one with potential fans and those relationships that you make on the road or in those venues are typically the ones that follow you for the longest so please make it a point to play more live shows in 2018 I actually just did it so excuse me 2019 I just did a video a couple of weeks ago and I’ll link to that in the YouTube card about how you can book more

live shows and no matter what stage of your career you’re in so please use live performances at as a way to grow your fan base now the second way that you can grow your fan base in 2019 is through collaboration collaborate with other artists in your area it’s a great way to steal or share your fan base with another artist and vice versa I’m sure there are people in your area who like the same types of music is you who make music that’s similar to yours who have fans that would love your music just as much as they love theirs so find areas where you can collaborate and collaborating doesn’t always mean that you do a song together maybe you throw shows together maybe you’re good at web

design and this band in your area needs a good website trade those services say hey I’ll design your website if you put me on the bill for your next show and so on and so forth there are so many different ways that you can collaborate and barter with other artists other writers other bands in your area and that collaboration is gonna do a few different things of course it’s gonna open you up to their fan base and that’s always great and that’s the purpose of this video but it’s going to help you network in the industry as well because everyone knows someone who knows someone who knows someone so the better connected you are the more opportunities your open yourself up for in the future and then of course the more fans may come from that relationship down the road so that’s why collaboration is such a huge part of growing your fan base this year another way to grow your fan base that’s kind of underutilized right now is playlist pitching Spotify just released a tool that allows you to pitch your music directly to them and that’s all well and good but there’s some ground work you should be doing first I did a video about this a couple of weeks ago as well but you can actually

submit to user-generated playlists just by searching on your phone for Spotify playlist and there are other tools who have n places that have already aggregated these lists and I’m a link to those in the show notes or I’ll do another video on those another time but my point is playlists are huge most of the people that are listening to music are listening to it through an app like Spotify like Apple musics like Deezer and all of these services have some sort of a playlist or some sort of an algorithm driven experience for their users so the most so the more playlists that you can get on the more people you’re exposed to the more likely you’ll gain more fans so please make playlists pitching a part of your strategy in 2019 now the last area I want to focus on for this video is paid advertising paid advertising is a great way to expose yourself to new audiences and it’s the one thing that you have that the artist that you grew up on did not usually in

marketing up until very recently we’re talking in the last five to seven years all marketing was done based on guest guesswork you know you may know who your ideal customer is you may know roundabout age range you may know round about what other brands they may be interested in where they shop what their household income is and you kind of just throw stuff at them until it sticks that’s why TV advertising was so big because if someone likes ESPN then they might like your basketball shoes right now Facebook Ads take that take that idea and social media has taken that idea and drilled it down to the most miniscule of details you can literally go on Facebook right now and target people who are newly engaged between this age and this age who live within 15 miles of this is it and who are

My Favorite SEO Hack to Increase Website Traffic

Have you tried all those traffic hacks out there that me and all these other, quote unquote, gurus and marketing experts have told you, but you found that you’re getting very little traffic or results? Well, you know what, I’m gonna change that today. Hey everyone, I’m Neil Patel, and today I’m gonna share with you my favorite hack to increase your website traffic that you’re not using. (upbeat music) Before we get started, make sure you subscribe or follow this channel, whatever social channel you’re on, if you wanna stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest in marketing information, make sure you subscribe. What is this hack? Do you really think it’s that great? Is it? Can’t be, Neil, right? Well, trust me.

I bet less than 1% of you are using this tactic. You’ve heard of Google Search Console, right? Well, of course you have. I’ve talked about it, Google’s talked about it, everyone who’s a marketer has talked about it. But here’s what I want you to do. Trust me. You’re not doing this. First, go into Google Search Console. Second, look for all the keywords that you’re ranking for that are driving the majority of the traffic. They should be ranked at the top within your Google Search Console.

It typically shows you the most popular keywords that you get the most clicks for to the least popular ones at the bottom. Now I want you to take those keywords and click on ’em. Google Search Console will show you which page that keyword is pointing to. This is really important. Once you’ve done this, you now know the most popular keywords that are driving traffic to your website. If you guys already know how to do this, and you’ve done this before, comment with a yes. If you don’t know how to do this, please comment with a I’ve never done this before or a no. The reason I’m asking you to do this is this will help me create future videos so I know what to teach you on and what I know not to teach you on ’cause I don’t wanna regurgitate the same information that you already know. But as I mentioned, you’re not doing this. And check this out, I’m not talking about the Google Search Console part. You now have the keywords that are driving traffic and what pages they’re going to.

Take that keyword and put it into Ubersuggest. Ubersuggest will show you all the Google suggest versions of that keyword. What I mean by Google suggest is, have you every done a Google search and you start typing in things like marketing, and it starts recommending other long tail phrases that are similar to marketing that other people search for? These are other popular terms. If you already know that you’re ranking for terms like marketing, what Ubersuggest will do is it’ll show you all the long tail phrases. See with Google, it’s much harder to rank for head terms than it is to rank for long tail terms.

So take whatever terms that you’re already ranking for that’s driving the majority of your traffic, print to Ubersuggest it’ll show you all the other similar long tail phrases that you should be using within that web page. Now I want you to go back to your web page and I want you to integrate those keywords in there. It could be that you can just add them in because your contents are already similar to those key words. It may be that you have to update your content, add in paragraphs and paragraphs of text which is fine as well.

You’ll also find that some of those key words aren’t relevant enough to your content and that means that you may want to write a secondary article or another article around that one long tail phrase. Now that you’ve done this, I want you to also update your title tag and your meta description to include those most popular terms that Ubersuggest showed you. Now that you’ve done that, take that URL, go back into Google Search Console and submit it for re-indexing. Once you submit it for re-indexing, what you’ll find is it’ll get re-crawled by Google again. Within 30 days, you’ll notice that your page that was already ranking for a head term, a popular term that was driving a lot of your traffic, will also now start ranking for long tail phrases and you’ll be getting all this extra traffic that you never had before. That’s my traffic hack. It’s simple, it’s easy to do but most people don’t use it because it uses tools like Google Search Console and Ubersuggest separately instead of combining them.

When you combine them, you’ll get much more traffic and best of all both of these tools are for free.
